Drywall, also known as sheetrock, is typically installed on the walls and ceilings of residential buildings. It is constructed using plaster panels that are covered entirely by thick sheets of paperboard on both sides. Termites can easily cause damage to drywall because they feed on paper and because drywall contains cellulose, which is one of its components.
What exactly are the activities of termites?
If we're only talking about drywall, they like to eat the glue and paper that are attached to the front and back of your drywall. The front side is where they focus their attention the most. They are not particularly interested in gypsum, which is the primary component of drywall board. They create a hole in the drywall by eating the paper front, which is located between the paint, which they do not enjoy eating, and the gypsum in the drywall. This hollow, which becomes a venerated location over time, causes the surface of your wall to become brittle. It would fall apart if you lightly touched it (or if your children did), so be careful.
How can you tell if the damage to the drywall was caused by termites?
Small pinholes in the wall are a common sign that the wall has been damaged by termites. These holes appear where the termites have eaten through the paper coating on the drywall and/or wallpaper. There will also be faint lines on the drywall. When you tap on the wall, you can hear a hollow sound. The paint will also be bubbling or peeling. The baseboards will give way under just a little bit of pressure. The doors or windows are jammed.
Do you see any termites emerging from the walls?
Large numbers of winged termites in the process of swarming emerge from cracks in the walls and foundation of your home. They may also emerge from cracks or holes in the ground that you find in your yard. They emerge from swarm tubes that have been constructed by the worker termites. The unfortunate reality is that not every termite will make it to the next generation to found a new colony.
How can termites be eradicated from a home?
Damage to drywall caused by termites is a problem only for homeowners who currently have or have previously had termites in their home. If you notice any of the signs listed above, then it's possible that you have termites. To begin, you will require the services of a pest control company. Create a strategy for eliminating the termites, and then put that strategy into action.
How can drywall damage caused by termites be repaired?
The first thing that needs to be done is to locate all of the places in the drywall board where the termites have been eating. There is no method that is more effective than making light pressure on the lower parts of the walls close to the areas where the termites were known to have been. We are able to have the crumbling drywall cut out, removed, and replaced with a brand new piece of drywall board wherever it may be found. Therefore, all of the damaged drywall caused by termites has been removed from the house. The newly installed drywall has been patched in place and is now ready to be painted.
