The High Museum of Art is a Southeastern United States art museum located in Atlanta, Georgia. The High is a part of the Woodruff Arts Center and is located on Peachtree Street in Midtown, Atlanta's arts area. It attracted 509,000 visitors in 2010, ranking 95th among world art museums.
The Atlanta Art Association founded the High School in 1905. The association was titled after Harriet Harwell Wilson High, who donated her family's Peachtree Street home to be utilized as a museum in 1926.
Meier's design not only provided a permanent home for the High's collections, but it also acted as a geometric sculpture and a study in light. The work, which was groundbreaking at the time, launched Meier's career as a museum designer.
