Who is eligible to be buried in the GA National Cemetery?
A dependent of an eligible veteran (unmarried, under the age of 21, or a life-long reliance on the veteran) is eligible for burial at GVMC. It is necessary to provide proof of eligibility. The veteran must provide a copy of his or her DD 214 or other proof of active military service.
Even if they predecease the Veteran, eligible spouses and children may be buried. Members of the reserve components of the armed services may be eligible for burial if they died while on active duty or while on training duty, or if they were qualified for retired pay.
Burial benefits include burial with the veteran, permanent care, and the spouse or dependent's name and date of birth and death etched on the veteran's gravestone. Even if they predecease the soldier, eligible spouses and dependents may be buried.
Your spouse may be eligible for a low-cost or no-cost burial with you at a veterans cemetery. However, if you and your spouse split and then remarried, they are unlikely to be eligible. Children who are financially dependent on their parents may also be eligible. Some parents of those died in the line of duty may be eligible as well.
